This is an important lecture on the empowering force of woman. John Bradshaw offers his perspectives on the complexities of womanhood and the importance of the self-actualization of woman. Many  lives of women have been blurred by the patriarchal society.

John Bradshaw uses the poetic legend in Greek mythology of Amour, the son of  the goddess of beauty Venus, and a beautiful girl Psyche, to describe the stages of women’s self-empowerment, development, and growth. This theme is taken from Metamorphoses, by the ancient author Apuleius (2nd Century AD). According to the legend, Psyche was so beautiful Venus was jealous and sent her son Amour to harm Psyche. However, when Amour saw Psyche, he was mesmerized and secreted her to his palace where he saw her every night in the veil of darkness. He prohibited her from seeing his face. Envious and devious sisters prompted Psyche to disobey the ban and she tried to see her beloved using a night-lamp. When she bent towards her mysterious husband, a drop of oil fell from the lamp waking Amour up. Enraged, he left Psyche.
